WHAT ARE POWDER BROWS ALL ABOUT EXACTLY?
Powder Brows are a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing procedure for clients who wish to enhance their natural brow fullness/shape/colour. Colours are fully customized to each client leaving you with fuller looking brows. An indepth consultation is a part of your initial appointment. Two appointments are necessary for a finished result.
WHY DO YOUR BROWS?
Brows are one of the most important parts of your look. They shape and define your face. After getting your brows done you’ll wake up ready to go! You can go about each day looking fresh and lively with minimal effort. The goal is to create an extremely realistic brow that does not ever look ‘done.’

CUSTOMIZABLE COLOUR
Every session begins with an in-depth colour consultation. We will assess your natural skin tone and see which pigment best suits you. Whether it be warm or cool, the pigment will never heal as dark as it originally appears. The end result will always be a soft natural tone barely noticeable to others, yet perfectly pigmented to give your brows the defined shape and fullness that they deserve
APPLICATION, HEALING, LONGEVITY
The application process is roughly 60 minutes, the full appointment time is 2.5 hours. The healing process is usually 7-12 days long. The longevity of the brow treatment ultimately depends on your skin type and how well you hold onto pigment. Two appointments are necessary to achieve full results. Average longevity is 1-2 years.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MICROBLADING AND POWDER BROW
MICROBLADING
Using a hand tool with ultra-fine needles individual hair strokes are created leaving you with the most natural eyebrow look. This is not suitable for 90% of clients because of their skin type and is a thing of the past. The longevity of this technique has not proven to age well as most of the small hair strokes bleed into each other.
POWDER BROW
Using a cosmetic tattoo machine the powder shading technique creates the most defined full-brow look. This style suits almost everyone and is the most popular brow style. It has the most longevity and is the most successful in colour retention, style and visual appearance.

YOU ARE NOT A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BROWS IF….

Pregnant or breastfeeding (must wait 6 months after you stop nursing)
History of keloids or hypertrophic scarring
Taking blood thinning medication (unless it can be paused 5 days prior)
Hepatitis B/C
Currently sick with cold/flu/viral infection (rest, get better, reschedule)
Have uncontrolled high blood pressure
You are currently tanned, sunburned or have a skin rash (postpone until it is gone)
You will need a doctors clearance if you have/are:
Diabetic
Autoimmune disorder
Recently completed chemotherapy
Epileptic
Have a pacemaker
BEFORE YOUR BROW APPOINTMENT * PRE-BROW PREP
The Day of Your Appointment:
Hair: Arrive to your appointment with clean, washed hair, as you are advised not to shower for 24 hours after.
Makeup: Please keep makeup minimal and forego forehead foundation/concealer. Feel free to come with your eyebrows drawn on how you would normally do them with makeup.
Do not exercise prior.
Do not consume caffeine before your appointment. This causes excess bleeding and poor healed results. You can have it after. This applies to coffee, tea, Coke, Diet Coke and energy drinks.
24-28 Hours Before Please Discontinue:
Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aleve (Tylenol is OK.)
Alcohol
One Week Before Please Discontinue:
Specific RX Meds
Blood thinners should be stopped 5 days prior as they will increase bleeding during the procedure. Results will be jeopardized if there is excess bleeding due to these things. If you are bleeding the pigment can not implant properly.
Fish oils / Omega 3's
Vitamin E in high doses
Two Weeks Before Please Avoid:
Do not get a Covid vaccine 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after for safety reasons.
Retinol or glycolic products for 2-3 weeks prior to your appointment, and avoid applying these products to the brow area after your appointment indefinitely as it will increase the speed at which the pigment fades.
Tinting your brows (it is important that we see the natural colour of the hair)
Tweezing, waxing, threading or removing the hair. The more growth the better.
30 Days Before Please Avoid:
Abrasive treatments such as peels, fruit acids, laser treatments and similar.
Botox or fillers
Tanning (we can not work on sun-damaged skin).
Hair growth serums
AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT * POST-BROW CARE
Keep your brows as dry for the next 14 days. Water or moisture will cause the scabs to come off prematurely and you will lose pigment. Wash your face with a cloth or wipes and lean your hair back into a bath or shower when washing.
For the first 7 days:
Absolutely no sweating. Sweat contains saline which removes pigment
No cream/makeup. Remember, your skin is open, and anything that gets in can cause an infection. Wait until the skin is closed to begin using products again
After 7 days you can begin to wash your face like normal again
For the first 2 weeks:
No massages, facials, saunas, steaming, swimming (head under).
For the first 4 weeks:
No direct hot sun / sun tanning (the sun will cause pigment to grey or turn grey).
Refrain, chemical peels, lasers, etc, (anything harsh on the skin).
After your healing is complete it is imperative that you wear SPF 40+ on your brows when outside to keep them looking fresh for longer and prevent colour fading/changing.
AFTER YOUR BROW APPOINTMENT * HEALING TIMELINE EXPECTATIONS
Day 1 - 5: Brows will appear darker, thicker, and possibly warm (reddish) in colour. They appear this way because the scabs begin to form. It is important not to pick the scabs! This will result in lost pigment.
Day 5 - 9: As the scabs start falling off, brows may appear patchy, flaky, and feel itchy. Do not pick the scabs! Doing so will remove pigment!
Day 9 - 12: The brows may look light or milky. This is due to a new layer of skin is growing over top of the brows to protect the area while it finishes healing. This is completely normal and the color will come back as this layer of skin sheds.
Day 12 - 21: The pigment will reappear and the brows will darken. The final healed result will be seen around the 2-3 week mark.
Any strokes or pigment that did not "re-appear" will be added back at the touch up appointment. You must book a touch up appointment to get the full results of this treatment.
At the touch up appointment, we can make the brows darker, fill in any missing gaps, or go slightly thicker but an entirely new brow shape will be considered a full appointment.
BROW FAQ
How long does microblading/powder brow/combo brow last?
Since the pigment is not implanted into the skin as deeply as traditional tattoos, the area will naturally fade overtime but will likely never completely disappear. It is still a tattoo. Permanent makeup typically lasts 1-3 years, depending on skin type and age. Skincare routine will also affect the lasting effect of the pigment. Those who use products with AHA or Glycolic Acid with experience accelerated fading as your skin is regenerating faster. Each individual’s color retention within the skin will vary. To maintain the brows looking fresh, a touch up is suggested every 12-18 months. Clients with oily skin may require more frequent touch ups (as early as 6-8 months post).
Does it hurt?
Surprisingly, no! It feels like scratching for a few minutes, then a topical anesthetic is applied and it’s so painless you may even fall asleep. Most people report the tweezing is worse than the actual tattooing.
How long is each appointment?
Each procedure will vary. Typically expect an appointment to last about 1-2 hours. First, we will meticulously map, measure and shape your brows into a beautiful shape based on your facial features.. Next, the color will be selected. Only once the client approves of both will the procedure begin. Treatment is done using sterile and disposable pigments with the highest standards in the PMU industry. Each treatment has two sessions, the initial session and the touch-up appointment 4-8 weeks later. The length of time for the touch up appointment ranges from 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on what needs to be done.
I already had my eyebrows done by another artist. Can you fix them or re-do them?
We are not accepting cover-up clients right now. If your current brows are just old/faded then please email a photo to ulana@beautiebyullie.com to consult before you book an appointment. Please note that even if you have had microblading in the past, your appointment with me is considered (and charged as) an initial 1st appointment, not a touch up appointment. These appointments are more difficult and require more work.
